  1. Loose gearstick In order to take a photo of the loose gearstick bottom with its nylon bush would involve removing everything again which is a bit of a fag This nylon bush is a weak point as I sent away for another from a breakers, being careful of the mileage the car had done, unfortunately when buying parts on line breakers do not usually give the mileage of the scrapped car , this arrived as a complete gearstick assembly, this was inexpensive, the bush on this one was better than mine although still worn, but intact, as my nylon bush was actually split from top to bottom, I did not need all the rest except for the bush. I therefore used this bush which pushes into a socket, I figured the way to compress this bush was a circular shim that surrounded the bush, I made this from thin aluminium sheet which I had, the gearstick bottom ball then pushed into the recess together with its nylon bush and surrounding aluminium shim, this was a tight fit, and made the gearstick more positive. I think this is a design fault, although my car is high mileage, and the gear knob was worn on the top suggesting much use of the gears

  5. Update! I toke the car to a dealer and they had the car overnight. They did a coldstart and said that this is the way the car sounds. Pistonplay and all the strange explanations that I don’t buy. So I will keep on driving it and see what happens
  6. Mystery solved – the boot door hinge has damaged the cables that run through that rubber tube. It was installed in a twisted position so after a few years of opening and closing it must have snapped. It's beyond my DIY skills to fix :(
  7. thats most odd - I have an old saying which is "if it went together it can come apart" and in general its mostly correct except for the resulting damage 😆
  8. Thank you I will have a look and try that.
