richgon Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Hi guys I have a 2005 Nissan X-Trail. Recently, it has developed a problem that has been made even more frustrating as it is intermittent. My mechanic even borrowed the car for 2 days and it did not act up at all while he drove it around. I'd be really happy if you have any suggestions! Here's the problem:- the rev's completely drop to 1000 RPM and the car loses all power. No matter how much you push the accelerator, it stays at 1000. It also never completely cuts out, it just idles at 1000. This has happened on the freeway (dangerous), but seems to mostly happen at low speeds.- during this time, the battery light flickers very fast & often the ABS light comes on.- generally, when the car has been turned off for 5 minutes, the revs come up to normal and it completely behaves.- I think I may have noticed that it occurs more when the aircon is on (?) I'd really appreciate any input, thanks so much!
Nissan Owners Club Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Firstly welcome to the club! :) Normally if a batter light is flickering, it can point to the alternator being at fault, however I would have thought your mechanic would have picked up on this. Definitely sound electrical though. Could be a throttle position sensor or similar? I'm only making an educated guess though!
