Hi

I have a Micra 04, it has some problems.

One problem is the tendency to steer to the left, especially on m'ways. I had the tracking checked, no change. The guy did say the left front tyre had more wear than the right, but couldn't say if this would cause the drift. The steering wheel seems to be misaligned to the centre, so I wonder if it had a frontal accident in it's life that has affected the steering. What do I need to ask the garage to look at?

After warm up is complete, the idle speed is not constant. I have read about poor solder joints in the EMU? where the idle speed sensor is. Having read a lot of similar troubles, it seems people spend a lot of money without making much difference to the problem. Any comments?

Hi Rob...welcome to the Forum!

Firstly, I would take the car to have all four wheels aligned, as some of the symptoms you describe could be coming from the rear end being misaligned.

Secondly, I would try some additive and give the engine a good clear out (at legal speed limits :-) to try to clean up the intake system which could cure the idle issue.

Hi, had that same problem on my last car, a fiat panda, wasn't tracking or suspension bushes, it had a seized nsf brake caliper but after a bit work found it wasn't seized, a flexi brake pipe had collapsed internally acting like a valve, letting pressure through but not letting it release, but yours might be just a sticky caliper, usually start seizing when pads get low, new pads can push the piston back away from sticky position, well theres a few ideas to play with

Hi Trevor and thank you for the advice. I haven't had the alignment checked yet, but I did put in some additive before a long drive to London. It certainly seems to run smoother than before. It's not perfect, but maybe after another long run it will be better. It's not something I would have thought of immediately.

When I looked around Halfords they have quite a choice and some expensive additives. I chose a Carlube product, but I wonder if the others are better or whether it doesn't really matter.

I'm thinking to do it for another tankful after this one.

Hi Rob,

I think if you add any type of additive and repeat a few times it should have some effect on the idle speed.

As BigSteven666 has suggested, it is worth checking the brakes to see if they are worn unevenly when the alignment is carried out.
