I have a 2005 Micra 4 door, and lately when I press the clutch pedal, the is a noise like something catching, its just a knock at the start of the movement of the clutch pedal, happens on the way down but not on the return, I thought maybe the pin in the pedal was coming adrift, but it seems ok, any ideas

Hi Mike...welcome to the Forum

It sounds like something is misaligned but is it making the noise at the pedal end or at the gearbox area?

Cheers   Trevor

Hi Trevor, thanks for your response, it seems to be at the pedal end, but I can't see or feel anything, I got my head down there with a lamp and was pressing the pedal with my hand, but just cannot pin point it, wondering has anyone else had this

Is the knock a single knock or continuous, with engine rotation, as the pedal is depressed? If a single knock, does it occur without the engine running? If the latter it points to the mechanical clutch pedal end of the release mechanism, the gearbox end being hydraulic......... If it is the former, i.e. continuous during pedal depression, it points to a problem with the clutch release bearing and clutch diaphragm fingers inside the bell housing......

Hi John, thanks for the reply, Its a single knock as the pedal starts its descent, and it doesn't matter whether the engine is running or not, seems to be louder under the dash than under the bonnet, but I can't pinpoint it, I've operated the pedal by hand with my head down there and it doesn't happen, it's like the pedal is pushed at a different angle with my foot and this causes the knock, its a very strange problem, hence my asking on here if anyone else has had this problem

Probably a flat worn on the clutch pedal pivot pin and/or an elongated pivot hole in the pedal.
