Korsh
Good day guys. I recently got a low mileage HR16DE motor for my Nissan Qashqai 2008 model, 1.6l. I figured I could mount the engine under the hood by myself though am not a machanic, it looked straight forward, and I won. Everything went well, connected all terminals, car starts and the engine runs smooth except one thing. The motor I got came off a Nissan Tiida (also uses HR16DE). Originally my qashqai has a closed cooling system, no radiator cap, I pour coolant through the reservoir and it goes directly into the engine. Now, on this new motor, there is no inlet and there is just no way direct the coolant from the reservoir into the system. Just that one part is giving me a headache. Been thinking of bridging one of the pipes with a T shaped pipe but, I don’t wanna do something that will cause my engine to overheat. Kindly assist please, is there a way around this, how do I do it.
Trevor
Hi You should have some sort of point of entry to the cooling system and as such it should be at the highest point in the engine bay to allow for expansion. On the original car it still would have had one so it should be a case of utilising your original expansion tank and connect it up to the new engine
Korsh
Hi travor Thank you for your prompt response. I ve been thinking I could put a T pipe and join on the one returning from the heater as it seems to share the same path with where it would have been connected on the original engine. I wonder if this would work? The attached image shows what the original engine was like. On the one I have now that inlet part is blocked. From what you are saying, will it be okay to use the inlet from the heater? I have the old block and cylinder head and after tracing the path, I noticed they kind of link on the inside. Trevor
I think that your suggestion should work fine as the hot water should automatically circulate and find its own way around the system even if you do link it up. Always best to measure the circulating water temperature with a infra-red temperature gun http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handheld-LCD-Digital-Temperature-Thermometer-Laser-Non-Contact-IR-Infrared-Gun-/131919872146?hash=item1eb7098092:g:pJwAAOSwEzxYWQXd
Korsh
Thanks a lot Trevor. I did it and am just monitoring how the temp behaves. One more thing, my car doesn't rave when its not in gear, is this normal. I can step on the accelerator pedal and nothing will happen, just continues to idle until I put it in gear. Trevor
I would check the throttle potentiometer for a wiring fault...wiggle the wiring to check for poor connections
