Qashqai e-power

Have now bought a Qashqai e-power which is great but can anyone tell me why the power lever when pushed forward mades the car go backwards and when pushed back the car goes forward? I am only a simple sailor ( retired Marine Engineer) but it has me baffled.....

🙂 I have no idea why it is like that but I'm sure the boffins in Nissan had their reasons, I too would also like to know if anyone has the answer?
