Hey all, i am a new member and have posted this in the upper level Nissan newbies section, but on the off chance that it may get overlooked there, please see below if you can help us out :-)

hello all, new member here, but certainly not new to OC's. i shall post this in the Qashqai forum also :-)

Yet it is shameful that i have come here to seek help and ask for assistance on my first post, so please excuse me.

My wife and i both have Nissan Qashqai's, but my wife's petrol manual has developed a fault selecting the reverse gear. it came out of nowhere and all other gears can be selected fine, so im ruling out the clutch at this point. its a 2014 Acenta Dig-T.

i have followed several youtube 'how to's' and removed the gear shift housing and cup holder sections so that i can access the gear lever housing to see if something simple like a wire needed tension, or a foreign object had fallen into a place which stops the reverse selection. the collar lifts up the selector and enables it to go into the reverse direction, but it just doesnt go forward into the gear, almost like it doesnt go far enough over to the left to be able to move forward?

i have some pictures below and wondered if any kind soul could help at all? i know when i was a long standing member of the FTOoc that there was a host of 'niggles' that we used to giggle to ourselves about when a newbie posted, and help was very forthcoming after, so i just wondered if this is a common issue, or a well known issue perhaps?

Otherwise, the car is well kept and drives flawlessly... just no backwards! haha

Thanks in advance :-)

Hi....welcome to the Club

I would be tempted to look at the gearbox end of the cables as there may be an obstruction between the selector mechanism or even a cable fault.
Otherwise I do know that the plastic cup that the gear lever sits in does wear and sometimes break up so if there is a lot of upward movement in the lever then this may be the case

Please let us know what you find to be the cause

Good to have you onboard!

Thanks for the warm welcome Trevor. it was indeed as you described, a clip down by the gear selector arm in the engine bay. i found  a clip down there obstructing the movement (it fell off the air filter box). i then moved the gear linkage arm around a bit and made sure everything was connected and moving in the right way and it seemed to fix it. silly really, but sometimes, that's just how it goes hahah
