Noisy Transmission and Jerking After Oil Pan Replacement

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a second-hand Nissan Qashqai, and I’m experiencing some issues that I hope you can help me with. Here’s the timeline of events:

1. Initial Issue - Oil Leak:
Shortly after purchasing the car, I noticed an oil leak. I took it to a mechanic, who identified that the oil pan had been replaced previously but was not installed correctly. The mechanic reinstalled the oil pan and resolved the leak.

2. New Issues After Oil Pan Fix:

Noise: A new metallic noise started after the oil pan was fixed. It sounds like something hitting a rotating fan. The noise only occurs when the car is moving and gets louder with speed.

Jerking: The car jerks quite strongly when driving at low speeds, particularly around 20-30 mph, as if struggling to shift gears (it’s a manual transmission).

3. Mechanic’s Diagnosis:
The mechanic believes the gearbox is starting to fail. They mentioned that it will work for a while but warned that the noise and jerking will worsen over time.

Could these issues be related to the oil pan replacement? I suspect the mechanic may have disturbed some nearby components like the transmission, exhaust, or driveshaft.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with their Qashqai, particularly metallic noises or jerking at low speeds?

What steps would you recommend I take to diagnose and fix this properly?

Any advice, insights, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Not sure but sounds like a Dual Mass Flywheel failing which can cause those sounds and also lead to the vehicle jerking.

You can tell this when you switch the engine off and the rattling continues for a very short while afterwards
